About Me

I’m a freelance writer, editor and former home educator with over 25 years of marketing and communications experience in the arts, sport and local government sectors (as Linsey Heald). I work with a wide variety of clients across a range of different themes and tasks, including writing, editing, marketing strategy and web design.

I am currently Managing Editor at Open Up Magazines, two independent titles for South Manchester, and Editor of Open Up Chorlton. The magazines champion and celebrate committed and passionate people, vibrant neighbourhoods and independent business. You can read some of my features here. I’m involved in umbrella promotion of local independent small business and ‘Shop Local’ destination campaigns. I also work on health and wellbeing projects, retail product descriptions, heritage and advertising campaigns.

I design and produce two academic journals: Manchester Memoirs for Manchester Literary & Philosophical Society, and The Gaskell Journal for the Gaskell Society.

Before freelancing, I was Marketing Manager for Manchester City Council, where I led a team working on a range of public sector information, internal communications and major event campaigns. Prior to that, I won several awards for my marketing work in public libraries. I was also part of the team that delivered marketing for the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games; I established and ran the city’s hugely successful Irish Festival and worked on City of Drama, a year-long international theatre festival.

I love Italy, European crime fiction (especially detectives with ‘issues’) and clouds. I’m a member of Mensa
and speak French and Italian. I’m based in Chorlton, Manchester, England.
